#9 Jason Lunn was doubling his usual distance in competing here.
The race was billed as a world record attempt for Haile Gebrselassie.
David Lelei, also a pacesetter, leads Gebrselassie and Markos Geneti.
Behind the record attempt, it was as if there was a separate race taking place...
...further back on the track.
Jonathon Riley leads Matt Lane, Kevin Sullivan, Anthony Whiteman...
...Luke Watson, and Nick Willis.
O'Brien set a fast enough early pace...
...but eventually Gebrselassie dropped off pace...
...and the race just became a nice opportunity for fans to watch Gebrselassie...
...race in the U.S. for the first time since the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
Kevin Sullivan follows Matt Lane.
Watson and Willis continue to hang out at the back of the pack.
Luke Watson recently joined Team USA Minnesota.
David Lelei is on his own in setting the pace.

Willis had a shot at the collegiate 3,000m record (7:45.22), set by Alistair Cragg when he won this race last year.
Lelei drops out and Gebrselassie - trailed by Markos Geneti - is on his own in setting the pace.
Earlier in the day, Kenenisa Bekele had run a 3,000m race in Stuttgart in 7:30.77.
