Alexander Prokopchuk, 36, of Latvia ran a...
...relatively even race. He went through the half...
...in 1:10:23 and finished 11th in 2:23:48.
Salvatore Bettiol, 42, of Italy finished 14th in the men's race...
...in 2:26:15.
Many of the top American marathoners had already run the U.S. Olympic Trials in February.
...While no Americans were expected to challenge for the top spots, there was a lot of speculation...
...about who the top American would be. That distinction went to Christoper Zieman, 32, of Felton, California.
He finished 13th overall in 2:25:45. Zieman wisely ran without a watch in the hot conditions.
Kentarou Suzuki, 26, of Japan finished 15th in 2:27:15.
The runners who started more conservatively...
...in the hot eather passed a lot of the fast starters late in the race.
Mario Fattore, 28, of Italy finished 18th in 2:29:17.
Michael Wardian was one of the runners who competed in February's U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials.
He finished 19th here in 2:29:57. Wardian finished 33rd at the Trials in 2:22:40.
Eddie Ernest-Jones, a resident of Coral Springs, Florida, but a resident of Great Britain...
...finished 22nd in the men's race in 2:31:53.
Ernest-Jones attended the University of Florida and ran track and cross country.
John Mentzer, 27, of Newport, Rhode Island, finished 20th in 2:30:50.
