Once again, the CVS/pharmacy Downtown 5K served as the USA Men's 5K Championships.
The field was headlined by Tim Broe, a 2004 Olympic finalist in the 5,000m.
Broe (#1) was joined up front early on by Matt Gabrielson (#16).
Ten meters before the mile mark, there was a huge pack up front.
R-L: #23 Ryan Shay, #22 Luke Watson, #20 Jason Hubbard, and #51 Tago Yasuhiro.
Takahashi Noriaki just before the mile mark.
#339 Sean Mick and #90 John Mortimer.
Musha Yoshiuki.
L-R: Scot Defilippis, Sato Kazuya, and Nick Allen.
The race served as the USA Championship, but there were a lot of Kenyan and Japanese...
...runners in the field as well. Above: Brian Pope, age 41.
Josh Ordway of Second Sole.
L-R: #52 Tsuchihashi Keita, #83 Nick Conway, #43 Michael Baird, and #44 Jonathan Bell.
Mike Platt, age 42, leads Derek Phillips.
#60 Daniel Cappiello and #2460 Carl Roth.
Just past the two-mile mark, coming out of the sun, it was a large pack of Kenyans...
...with American Tim Broe mixed in there. #3 Thomas Kiplitan, #8 Julius Kibet, and...
...#31 Valentine Orare led the way. Broe, who had run 13:18 earlier in the summer...
...to qualify for the Olympic Games, was in the best shape of his life, though perhaps a little...
...tired from a long season. Broe was holding his own here, though.
