With two laps to go in the boys' two-mile, Chris Barnicle (center) led Victor Gras (right) and Christo Landry.
Ahmed Haji (right) and Gavin Coombs ran together, but Coombs dropped out just a few strides later.
With one lap to go, it was Gras, Barnicle and Landry.
Landry, who will attend William & Mary next fall, finished third in 8:54.07.
Cory Thorne of Portsmouth (NH), a Foot Locker finalist, finished sixth in 9:03.75.
Barnicle outran Gras on the final lap, set a huge PR, and finished in 8:50.82.
The top five all broke Franklyn Sanchez's 1999 meet record of 9:03.50.
Gras finished second in 8:52.05. We believe it was the first time Barnicle...
...had beaten Gras, his frequent competitor as both are from Eastern Massachusetts.
Ahmed Haji finished fifth in 8:58.69 and broke Dan Wilson's CT state record.
Landry (right) congratulates his teammate, Chris Mocko, who finished eighth in 9:15.83.
This race was a big breakthrough for Barnicle, who will now be counted among the nation's best.
