Marc Sylvester was the most surprising casualty of the 800m prelims.
He dropped out halfway through with a recurring calf problem.
Kent State sophomore Mike Inge continued to lead on the third lap.
Inge led wire-to-wire, winning the second 800m prelim in 1:47.77, the fastest time of the night.
Nebraska freshman Dmitrijs Milkevics (3rd, 1:47.82) would advance to the final on time.
Auburn's Sherridan Kirk (5th, 1:48.52) was the last athlete to advance to the final.
Inge won the second prelim., Peter Etoot of Alabama finished second (1:47.80) and advance automatically as well.
Milkevics advanced on time, as did Christian Smith (4th, 1:48.20) and Kirk.
Other than Marc Sylvester, who dropped out...
...Kris Seats (left, 6th, 1:49.56) and Chris Stoves (7th, 1:49.66) were the only two athletes from the second prelim. who did not advance.
Sylvester was able to leave the track without assistance...
...but had a noticeable limp.
