BYU junior Bryan Lindsay took the lead on the first lap of the first of two...
...mile prelims. Washington's Eric Garner and Arkansas' Chris Mulvaney followed.
Lindsay continues to lead.
Montana senior Scott McGowan runs in about fourth place.
Lindsay continues to lead on the third lap.
Sean Jefferson (right) and David Freeman run in the pack.
McGowan takes of the lead and Garner follows.
High Point's Taylor Milne (left) was the school's first-ever NCAA DI T&F qualifier.
Defending champion Chris Mulvaney was running in front of his home crowd.
Eric Garner takes over the lead and the field spreads out across the track and the runners...
...try to position themselves for the final sprint.
Two laps to go.
With just over 200 meters to go, McGowan moves back into the lead.
Though they needed to finish in the top three to advance automatically...
...five runners ended up advancing from the first prelim.
One lap to go.
David Freeman finished fourth in 4:03.04 and advanced on time.
Early leader Bryan Lindsay of BYU finished sixth in 4:05.11...
...and did not advance to the final.
Sean Jefferson kicked home in first (4:02.54).
