L-R: Jackson Langat, Aaron Nasers, Nate Brannen, and Moise Joseph at the start of the first of two 800m heats.
Logan Jones of UConn set the pace early on.
Joseph won the first heat in 1:48.19, Brannen (1:48.50) and Langat (1:48.75) also advanced.
Mike Inge set the pace for most of the second 800m heat and he went on to win in 1:47.77.
Peter Etoot (bib #353, 1:47.80), Dmitrijs Milkevics (#519, 1:47.82), Christian Smith (1:48.20), and Sherridan Kirk (1:48.52) also advanced.
Marc Sylvester was the most surprising casualty, he dropped out with a calf injury.
L-R: Scott McGowan, Eric Garner, and Bryan Lindsay ran up front for much of the first heat of the mile.
Sean Jefferson had the day's fastest qualifying time, winning the first heat in 4:02.54.
McGown (4:02.88), Chris Mulvaney (#373, 4:02.92), David Freeman (4:03.04), and Garner (4:03.22) also advanced.
The top three in each of the two heats automatically advanced to Saturday's final, as did the runners with the next four fastest times from both heats combined.
Nathan Robison of BYU took the lead midway through the race and won in 4:03.35.
Jason Woolhouse (#539, 4:03.65), Erik Schmidt (4:04.09), Steve Sherer (left, 4:04.11), and Jordan Desilets (#420, 4:04.40) advanced.
An editing error means we will not be posting more photos of the men's 5,000 until Monday. Even when he wasn't leading, Alistair Cragg...
...seemed to be in complete control of the men's 5,000m race. He threw in two major surges, and the second allowed him to drop the...
...rest of the field seemingly effortlessly. Cragg won his third 5,000m title in a row in 13:39.63.
Ian Dobson (13:40.91) and Richard Kiplagat (13:41.91) went 2-3. The times don't reflect the degree to which Cragg dominated the race.
The DMR involved an all-star cast, and Wisconsin's super-frosh Chris Solinsky took the lead early on in the 1,200m leg.
Nate Brannen took the lead when it counted, though, and handed off first for Michigan, reportedly splitting 2:54.5.
Arkansas' 400m runner Terry Gatson made up some ground on Michigan, but Michigan still held the lead at the 400-800 exchange.
Arkansas' James Hatch ran a strong 800m leg, pulling away from Michigan's Andrew Ellerton.
