Jordan Desilets ran a patient race to win his first NCAA title in 8:42.64.
Approximately one month later, Desilets ran well at the U.S. Olympic Trials...
...and set a PR of 8:24.62. He said that winning was more important...
...than a fast time at the NCAA meet. Desilets signed a contract with Reebok after this meet.
Ian Dobson led Andy Smith over the final water barrier, but Smith came back...
...to finish second, 8:45.84 to Dobson's 8:48.12. Smith and Dobson are both juniors.
Jochen Dieckfoss of BU finished sixth in 8:55.02.
BYU's Matt Adams earned All-American status by finishing eighth in 8:59.11.
Brian Olinger of Ohio State finished 12th in 9:06.60.
Memphis' Mate Nemeth finished 11th in 9:05.70.
Weber State's Kenneth Richardson finished 14th in 9:21.72.
Tennessee's Marc Sylvester, Arkansas' James Hatch, and Oral Roberts' Prince Mumba...
...get ready for the 800m final. Above: Michigan's Andrew Ellerton sits on the track before the start.
Sylvester is a junior at Tennessee.
Arkansas junior James Hatch at the start.
Tennessee freshman Paul Cross. Tennessee was the only school with two runners in the final.
Michigan sophomore Andrew Ellerton, a native of Canada.
Not surprisingly, Jonathan Johnson of Texas Tech took the lead on the first lap.
Behind Johnson (R-L) are Oral Roberts' Prince Mumba, Arkansas' James Hatch...
...and Nebraska freshman Dmitrijs Milkevics.
