The congestion in the 27-runner final was evident, with many of...
...the runners coming into contact here.
Dathan Ritzenhein took the lead early on and tried to set a fast pace.
NC State freshman Bobby Mack runs in the pack.
Northern Iowa's Velibor Radojevic tries to catch up after falling on the second lap.
The field strings out behind Ritzenhein.
As Ritzenhein picks up the pace, Robert Cheseret and Louis Luchini are the first to follow.
#1167 Steven Kocsis and #1065 Eric Logsdon run in the pack.
Cheseret finished second in Thursday's 10,000m final after being outkicked by Alistair Cragg.
In this race, Cheseret was expected to be the stronger kicker, so Ritzenhein set a tough pace in an attempt to get away early.
L-R: Kyle Goklish, Jason Woolhouse, Seth Hejny, Matt Tegenkamp, Chris Solinsky, and Kyle King.
The hot and humid Texas weather slowed the times down significantly.
Kentucky's Thomas Morgan leads Oregon's Eric Logsdon.
Robert Cheseret, a sophomore at Arizona, continues to run in second place.
Kansas sophomore Benson Chesang.
Ritzenhein continues to set the pace and Cheseret continues to follow.
Ritzenhein went through 1K in 2:50.6 and 2K in 5:36.8 (a 2:46.2).
Cheseret runs in second...
...and Louis Luchini of Stanford runs in third.
Matt Tegenkamp of Wisconsin moves into fourth, with Chris Solinsky in fifth.
