With just over two laps to go, Chris Solinsky suddenly tumbled off the track onto the infield.
An official signaled for help while Solisky lay unconscious. He received aid and was well enough to cool down a little after the race.
Brett Schoolmeester leads Steven Kocsis and Jacob Gomez with just over two laps to go.
With just over a lap to go, Dathan Ritzenhein had a slight lead over Robert Cheseret.
Ritzenhein runs by Solinsky, who is receiving medical attention on the infield.
Jason Woolhouse crossed the finish line in fifth place but was later disqualified for stepping over the line onto the infield.
Ritzenhein's slight lead with a lap to go was not enough and Robert Cheseret was able to blow by him in the final 100...
...meters to win in 13:49.85. Cheseret said that his runner-up finish in the 10,000m final motivated him...
...to win this race. Cheseret's older brother, Bernard Lagat, won the 1999 NCAA Outdoor 5,000m title.
Ritzenhein's effort showed on his face. He finished second in 13:52.13.
Several weeks later, Ritzenhein announced his decision to turn pro, making this his last NCAA race.
Matt Tegenkamp finished third in 14:11.45.
Stanford's Louis Luchini finished fourth in 14:16.44.
Ritzenhein catches his breath after the race.
Chris Solinsky gets wheeled off the track. The doctors told him that he suffered froma combination of dehydration and asthma, but he was fine in the end.
