The grand opening of the new Track & Field Hall of Fame...
...at the Armory Track & Field Center was held...
...in conjunction with the 2004 New Balance Games.
The ninth annual New Balance Games featured...
...competition among many area high school runners...
...as well as a few elite races.
The Hall reportedly cost $8.5 million to complete...
...and is over 15,000 square feet. Several familiar faces...
...like nine-time New York City Marathon winner Grete Waitz (above)...
...were on hand for the opening.
A world-class track facility is housed in the same building.

The hall includes films, interactive exhibits and memorabilia from top track stars.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The elite two-mile was one of the feature events.
Galen Rupp was expected to try for the high school record...
...of 8:40.0, set by Gerry Lindgren in 1964.
Another top high school runner, Josh McDougal, was also in the race.
