Kicking off the middle-distance and distance action at the Olympic Trials...
...was the quarterfinals of the 800m. Jebreh Harris jumped out to an early lead in the first of three heats.

Riter, who runs for the University of Minnesota, hangs back on the first lap.
This heat ended up producing all of the time qualifiers. Robinson won in 1:46.42 and was followed by...
...Harris (1:46.67), Sylvester (1:46.87), DeLong (1:47.06), Inge (1:47.23), Henkels (1:47.60)...
...Koczman (1:47.68), and Riter (1:47.99), who all advanced.

Richard Smith (along with Jason Briggs) was one of the two runners who didn't advance from heat one. He ran 1:48.62.
