The two semifinals ended up being almost equally matched and the same number...

Tom Brooks finished 12th in 8:49.40 and did not advance.
Brooks graduated from Indiana in 2001.
Famiglietti won the first semifinal in 8:26.51 and advanced easily.
Steve Slattery (2nd, 8:28.85) also advanced easily.
Isaiah Festa finished third in 8:30.89.
Jordan Desilets, who won the NCAA steeple title one month earlier, finished fourth in 8:31.25.
Jacques Sallberg (left) outkicked Mike DiGennaro (8th, 8:36.48)...
...and advanced to the final, while DiGennaro did not.
Tom Chorny finished 11th in 8:47.30.
