Brian Trembley of New Jersey's Seton Hall Prep gets ready for the junior mile.
Ken Cormier, who won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in December.
Ross Toole of Strathclyde, Great Britain.
R-L: Ryan Gasper, Brian Trembley, Cody Harper, Daniel LaCava, and Mark Mitchell.
L-R: Ross Toole, Kevin Tschirhart, E.C. Gibbs, and Ryan Finn at the start.
The spectators were warmed up by a 5,000m world record by Tirunesh Dibaba earlier in the evening.
After running a two-turn stagger, Ken Cormier (in shades) cut across the track somewhat abruptly...
...making a beeline for the pole. Cormier had recently run a 4:15.30 mile at altitude...
...so it was clear that he was fit heading into this race.
Cormier leads with E.C. Gibbs of Cullman, Alabama, in second place.
R-L: Ken Cormier, Kevin Tschirhart, Ross Toole, Cody Harper, and Daniel LaCava.
In the past, this meet had featured a high school mile, but it was mainly comprised of local stars.
This was the first time the event had brought in a top international field for the event.
Scotland's Ross Toole takes over the lead, and Albuquerque, New Mexico's Cody Harper runs in second.
Ryan Gasper (right) of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, and Laef Barnes of Nine Mile Falls, Washington, run near the back of the pack.
Cody Harper takes over the lead and Kevin Tschirhart of Northport, New York, follows.
Ken Cormier moves back into the lead, and Tschirhart remains in second place.
The runners' uniform colors varied based on the country they were representing. Naturally...
...most of the runners in the race were representing the U.S.
Eventual winner Laef Barnes stayed back in the pack throughout most of the race.
