mile almost exactly one year earlier, so his victory
over a competitive field
shouldn't take many by surprise.

Barnes
missed much of the '04 outdoor season due to a stress
fracture, but he showed that he was back in winning

Race favorite Bernard Lagat, Brannen, Angwenyi, Baregensabe,

Lounis,
a sophmore at Michigan, had run an 800m PR of 1:51.39
earlier in the day across town at the Boston University

After
his 800m race, Michigan coach Ron Warhurst approached
him about rabbiting this mile, because the original
rabbit has cancelled earlier in the day.
|
Mike
Woods, a freshman from Canada, was the third current
Michigan runner in the race. The rest of the Michigan
team sat in the stands and cheered their teammates
on.
