With about .3 miles to go, Hendrick Ramaala of South Africa led James Koskei of Kenya.
Koskei kicked by Ramaala to win in 28:11, Ramaala was second, one second back.
Last year's champion Evans Rutto finished third in 28:19.
John Itati finished fourth in 28:22.
John Korir finished fifth in 28:24.
Abdi Abdirahman finished seventh in 28:32 and was first among the Americans.
Brad Hauser (9th, 29:18) leads Matt Lane (8th, 29:16).
Lane got a lot of attention as a native Mainer. He wasn't eligible for the $1000 that went to the first current Maine resident, however.
Two-time New York City Marathon Champion John Kagwe finished 10th in 29:30.
Eddy Hellebuyck, 41, of Albuquerque, NM was the first masters runner, finishing 11th overall in 29:49.
Chris Graff of the Nike Farm Team finished 12th in 29:58.
Andrew Masai, 42, of Kenya finished 14th in 30:10.
Another Maine native and current Stanford runner Louie Luchini used this race as a training run.
He finished 13th in 30:08.
Paul Evans of Great Britain was the third masters runner and 15th overall in 30:17.
Pete Julian of Atherton, CA finished 16th in 30:24.
Gennadi Temnikov, 41, of Rockville, MD and Russia finished 17th in 30:47.
Andrey Kuznetsov, 44, also of Rockville, MD and Russia finished 18th in 31:23.
Jonathan Morales of Mexico finished 20th in 31:29.
Mike Danahy of Princeton, NJ and formerly Bates College was the first finisher with a four-digit number (21st, 31:31).
