#29 James Koskei and #18 Shadrack Kosgei lead the way, Ryan Kirkpatrick and Kyle Baker also hang on to the back of the pack.
Approaching the two-mile mark (about 7:40 into the race) the pack is down to eight runners.
40 seconds later it's down to seven runners.
L-R: Eliya Sidame, Francis Komu, Shadrack Kosgei, Dan Browne, James Koskei, Patrick Nthiwa and Mebrahtom Keflezighi.
Just past the two-mile mark, about nine minutes into the race, it's still a pack of seven.
As they turn on to Canal Street, about 2.4 miles in, the pace picks up. This is where Dan Browne fell off the back of the pack.
Turning on to Memorial Boulevard it's (L-R) Keflezighi, Komu, Nthiwa, Koskei and Kosgei.
Turning on to Francis St. for the uphill finish, Kosgei (R) and Koskei have a one-step lead on Keflezighi.
Francis Komu also stays within striking range.
It became immediately apparent that Keflezighi wouldn't quite have the power to stay with Koskei and Kosgei.
