With approximately 400 meters to go, Ben True of Maine's Greely High School led the way.
True, ninth at last year's Nationals, held off Victor Gras to win his first Northeast Regional title in 15:22.8...
...on a windy, cold day - appropriate conditions for someone who also excels at nordic skiing.
Belmont (MA) High School senior Victor Gras finished second in 15:25.1.
Gras will be making his second trip to Nationals; he finished 28th a year ago.
#367 Gavin Coombs leads Josh McDougal and Lopez Lomong.
Coombs finished third in 15:27.9 and McDougal finished fourth in 15:28.6.
Lopez Lomong of New York finished sixth in 15:30.0.
Mohamed Khadraoui (9th, 15:35.1) ran in sixth with about 400m to go, but - in the biggest surprise of the day - did not qualify.
Cory Thorne, a junior from New Hampshire and the only non-senior in the top eight, finished fifth in 15:29.7.
Ahmed Haji finished eighth in 15:30.9 and will make a repeat trip to Nationals. He finished eighth a year ago.
Jonathan Anderson of New Jersey (left, 7th, 15:30.4) moved up from ninth to grab one of the final qualifying spots.
Kyle Heath, a senior at Victor (NY) High School, finished 11th in 15:44.7.
Chris Barnicle, a junior at Newton North (MA) High School...
...finished 10th in 15:42.1.
David Mock, a senior at Westmont Hilltop (PA) and the PA AA State Champion, finished 12th in 15:53.2.
The race begins to get crowded as (L-R) Bobby Papazian, Khalid Abdi and Bobby Edgerton finish.
Papazian (15th, 15:59.5), Abdi (14th, 15:59.1) and Edgerton (13th, 15:57.9).
