Past the halfway mark, Mike DiGennaro uses one of the biggest downhill slopes of the race to increase his lead.
DiGennaro's pursuers include (L-R) Shawn Wallace, Bryon Gartrell, Eric Bonnette, John Mortimer, Matt Downin and Erik Nedeau.
DiGennaro, Matt Downin, Gartrell and Wallace run wide around the curve while John Mortimer, Brian Mahoney, Nedeau, Andy Downin and Matthew Croteau run a tighter turn.
Right around the 1,200-meter mark, DiGennaro appears to be headed to victory.
The 1999 winner of this race was Scott Anderson; Andy Downin won in 2000 and 2001.
Though the race is mainly downhill, there's a small rise around eight-tenths of a mile.
Shawn Wallace, a senior at Boston College, leads the chase.
Three minutes and 10 seconds into the race, DiGennaro still holds a sizeable lead.
The three race founders, John Mortimer, Matt Downin and Andy Downin all run in the chase pack.

DiGennaro hung on to win in 3:58; Wallace finished second, also in 3:58.
Winning times at this race have been 3:51 in 1999 and 2001 and 3:58 in 2000 and 2002.
Word was that this year's race was a more accurate (longer) mile than last year's, though.
We miss a shot of Erik Nedeau finishing third (4:00) and Andy Downin in fourth (4:02).
#10 Bryon Gartrell (a junior at Boston College) finishes 6th in 4:05, John Mortimer is 7th (4:06) and Matt Downin 8th (4:06).
Elijah Barrett of Keene, NH finishes 26th in 4:20.
