Distance action kicked off with the Metropolitan 3,000m for runners who live in the tri-state area.

Brian Clas jumped out to a lead immediately and stayed up front for the entire race.

Dave Slavinski gradually gained on Clas but was unable to catch him. Slavinski was second in 8:36.79.
Clas won in 8:33.12 on the tight turns of Madison Square Garden's 160-yard track.
Ricardo Santos of Saucony finished seventh in 8:44.09.
One of the featured events was a Heroes 4x400m Relay...
...Which featured teams from the fire and police departments.
The NYPD's 'B' team outdueled the 'A' team, 3:51.67 to 4:06.91.
The New York Athletic Club leads early on in the 4x800m Relay.
This relay featured many lead changes, mainly involving Duke...
...The NYAC...
...And the Syracuse Chargers.
 
Running in third (and at one point first) for Duke is Nick Schneider, who won the high school boys mile here last year.
Life University finished fifth in 7:55.05.
