Lekote started to fade on the last lap and the rest of the field was ready to pounce.
An elated Nate Brannen got to the finish line first, winning his first national title in 1:47.79.
Fred Sharpe of Auburn (1:48.16) edged Sam Burley of Penn out for second (1:48.25).
