1.
South Carolina freshman Otukile Lekote is introduced before
the 800m final.
2. Dirk Heinze (3rd), Michael Stember (4th), Lekote (1st)
and Bryce Knight (2nd).
3. TCU's Eliud Njubi (8th, 1:48.50) gets off to a quick
start.
4. Lekote, a notorious frontrunner, set a pace that took
the sting out of his competitors' kicks.
5. Using a frontrunning strategy that proved to be unusually
successful in these championships, Lekote went wire to wire,
winning in 1:46.68.
6. Despite two 4th place finishes (800, 1,500), this
was a less-than-stellar meet for Stember (followed by BYU's
Mao Tjiroze).
7. Penn sophomore Sam Burley earned All-America honors
with his 7th place 1:48.44 finish.
8. In the final 100m, it was almost anyone's race. Burley,
Tjiroze, Stember, Baylor's Floyd Thompson, Heinze, Knight and
Lekote stretch across the track.
9. Lekote managed to hold everyone off for the win.
10. Lekote and Knight (1:47.22) go 1-2.
11. Lekote congratulates Heinze.
12. L-R: Burley, Thompson, Heinze, Lekote, Knight, Stember,
Tjiroze and Njubi. |
