Wisconsin senior Isaiah Festa grabbed one of the automatic qualifying spots (3rd, 8:39.66).
Mike Hill finished eighth in 8:53.39.
Slattery (2nd, 8:39.30) and Kandie (1st, 8:38.73) go over the water barrier for the final time.
Max King grabbed the final automatic qualifying spot (8;40.12).
Weber State's Jeremy Tolman and Texas' Kevin Barra fight for what would be the final qualifying spot.
Tolman, one of the top seeds, made it a close call but qualified for the final, finishing sixth in 8:44.44.
Kevin Barra (7th, 8:47.32) did not advance.
Washington's Mike Hill comes off the final barrier while NC State's Andy Smith has a dramatic fall, belly flopping into the water pit.
The water-logged Smith finished 10th in 9:00.00.
Ian Collings finished ninth in 8:59.64.
