300 meters in, Blincoe leads with Mulvaney, Hayden and FSU's Maarten van den Heuvel following.
Almost 700 meters into the race the order remains the same.
This was an international race with Blincoe hailing from New Zealand, Mulvaney from Great Britain and Hayden from Canada.
With just under 800 meters to go, the pack begins to stretch out as Adrian Blincoe sets a quick pace.
R-L: Hayden, Sage, Wilson, Strong, Rob Vermillion (mostly obscured) and van den Heuvel.
With just over 400 meters remaining, it's still Blincoe, Mulvaney and Hayden.
Sage, Strong, Wilson and McGowan run right behind the leaders.
The top four in each heat plus the next four fastest times would advance to the final.
Florida State junior Maarten van den Heuvel did not advance to the final, he finished 9th in 3:49.20.
Dan Wilson ran a very strong last lap to win the heat in 3:40.27.
Strong (3:41.54), Sage (3:41.66), Mulvaney (3:41.89), Blincoe (3:42.16), Hayden (3:42.27), and McGowan (3:42.37) advanced from this heat.
