R-L: Parlapiano, Webb, Jennings and Robison bring up the back of the pack.
Nearly 700 meters into the race, the pack has bunched up again and it's clear that this won't be the faster of the two heats.
Gruber continues to lead with 800 meters to go.
Parlapiano, Webb, Jennings and Robison hang out in the back of the pack.
The pack heads around the first turn.
L-R: Brendon Mahoney, Spiker, Webb, Parlapiano, Robison, Jennings and Gruber.
With one lap to go, ten runners together and only four automatic qualifying spots available, it's anyone's race.
As they came down the home stretch, it looked like the 100-meter final as the runners stretched out across five lanes.
#764 Grant Robison won the race in 3:45.11, all ten runners finished within half a second.
The qualifiers, in addition to Robison, were Gruber (3:45.13), Webb (3:45.14), O'Brien (3:45.18) and Spiker (3:45.19).
Josh Spiker and Sean O'Brien leaned at the finish, putting them both in the final. Gabe Jennings did not lean and missed out on a qualifying spot by .03.
O'Brien leaned so far that he fell to the track as he crossed the finish line. He remained there for a moment but was able to get up and walk away without assistance.
Heat winner Grant Robison of Stanford.
The start of the men's 10,000 meter final, Ryan Shay of Notre Dame, the defending champion, leads.
Edwardo Torres of Colorado runs in the pack.
Teren Jameson of Utah also runs in the pack.
Louis Luchini leads Donnie Fellows, Joep Tigchelaar, Mike Wisniewski and Ian Dobson.
