By chance, the first prelim. ended up being loaded with Lekote, Brannen, Burley and Langat.
Langat and Burley trail Lekote with one lap to go. Lekote reportedly went through 600m in 1:18 before fading.
Brannen and Dunne trail Burley.
Langat won the race in 1:46.41, Burley finished second in 1:46.94 and Brannen third in 1:47.04.
The top three in each heat plus the runners with the next four fastest times would advance to the final.
Though Dunne (4th, 1:47.39) and Lekote (5th, 1:48.13) had to sweat it out a bit, they did both advance to the semi finals.
