WOMEN'S PHOTOS

Georgetown's Ali Najjar leads BYU's Chad Simkins on the first lap.
Najjar and Simkins led with one lap to go.
Jonathan Johnson (between Najjar and Simkins) ran an impressive last lap to win the second prelim.
Marc Sylvester and Paul Ciurlys trailed the field with a lap to go.
Johnson won the second prelim. in 1:48.10.
Jesse O'Connell (2nd, 1:48.58) and Ali Najjar (3rd, 1:48.80) both advanced automatically.
Paul Ciurlys (4th, 1:49.37) and Chad Simkins (1:49.49) advanced on time. All of the time qualifiers came out of the first two heats.
The most surprising casualty was Tennessee's Marc Sylvester who finished 7th in 1:50.60 and did not advance.
Sylvester was sick coming in to the meet but didn't expect it to affect him as much as it did.
Peter Etoot of Alabama gets ready for the third of four 800m prelims.
Wisconsin sophomore Dan Murray.
Minnesota freshman Trent Ritter.
Kentucky's Jean Balan (left) and Chad Johnson.

Murray starts in lane two.
R-L on the first lap: Johnson, Etoot, Balan and Murray.
Etoot, who had the third-fastest time coming in, was running well with one lap to go...
...but fell past 600 meters, did not finish and did not advance.
Also in there are Minnesota's Ritter and Nebraska's Chris Burns.
Down the homestretch, Wisconsin's Murray and Kentucky's Balan lead.
