Butler's Gary Glackman would finish 12th in 8:56.46.
With less than 600 meters to go, Andy Smith, Jordan Desilets and Bashar Ibrahim...
...lead Henrick Ahnstrom and Jochen Dieckfoss.
Also in there (top right) is Wisconsin's Isaiah Festa.
Desilets and Ibrahim lead.
Six runners fight for the five qualifying spots with less than 500 meters to go.
Princeton's Tristan Colangelo finished 7th in 8:47.25 and did not advance.
Tom Burns leads Gary Blackman and Kenneth Richardson.
Kent State junior Peter Weisz finished 13th in 9:01.27.
Ibrahim (8:39.37), Desilets (8:39.68) and Smith (8:39.88) grabbed the top three spots.
Dieckfoss (8:40.94) and Festa (8:44.06) grabbed the final two qualifying spots.
Because the second heat ended up being faster, Henrick Ahnstrom (6th, 8:45.41) did not advance.
Aaron Fisher finished ninth in 8:49.98.
Juan de Bastos finished 14th in 9:06.99.
De Bastos, a senior, had a season-best of 8:48.44.
The start of the second of two steeplechase semi-finals.
Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo's Ben Bruce leads over the first water barrier.
Clemson's Itay Magidi, Arkansas' Daniel Lincoln and Montana State's Lyle Weese follow.
Bruce continues to lead Lincoln and Magidi.
Two-time defending champion Daniel Lincoln would be attempting to grab his third title and run the 10,000m here.
