Montana
State junior Jonathan Gibson.
|
Past
1,200m, Bruce and Magidi lead Lincoln, Allgeyer and
Weese.
|
Lincoln
was the favorite here but the question was if he could
defend his title after running Thursday night's 10,000m
final.

Colorado
State's Mike Nicks leads BYU's Adams and Memphis'
Mate Nemeth.

Nicks was the last qualifier in.
|
Florida's
Steve Zieminski (6th, 8:40.74) advanced but BYU's
Adams (10th, 8:44.42) missed by less than a second.
|

what coach Mark Wetmore told him not to do.
|
R-L
on the outside: Neil Davis, Matt Spring, Tommy Bonn,
Hejny, Sundell and Logsdon.
|
Cheboiywo
looks relaxed at the back of the pack. He had a good
reason to take it easy here...
|
...he
was also running Thursday's 10,000m final and wanted
to advance to the 5,000 final with as little effort
as possible.
|
Stanford's
Louis Luchini and Colorado's Billy Nelson lead.
