Cheboiywo is in his first year at Eastern Michigan and has had to deal with rumors that he has run professionally in Europe.
Though he has run on the track in Europe, Cheboiywo has maintained his amateur status and is now pursuing a geography degree at Eastern Michigan (and dominating NCAA races).
Jorge Torres runs in second at 6k.
Though he had hoped to give Cheboiywo a race, Torres couldn't match Cheboiywo's fast start.
Alistair Cragg of Arkansas was a surprise in 3rd. He sat out the regional meet with a knee injury with the hopes that some rest would serve him well.
Cragg said that he got caught in no man's land and had to wait for the pack to catch up to him.
