PR by one second.

Carroll of Ireland (#11) and Mebrahtom Keflezighi
run together near mile 24.

Carroll
and Keflezighi didn't run together for long, Carroll
was on his way by, encouraging Keflezighi to go with
him.

Keflezighi
had spent more time running with the lead pack and
was hurting in Central Park.

Carroll,
on the other hand, was flying. He moved past Thys
to finish sixth in 2:10:54.

Keflezighi
ran to win but suffered in the last five miles. He
finished ninth in 2:12:35.

Immediately
after the race, Keflezighi didn't seem eager to run
another marathon. One day later he admitted that he
might try again.

Stephen
Ndungu of Kenya finished 10th in 2:13:28.

Jeff
Schiebler of Canada was also making his marathon debut
in New York.
