South Lakes High School (Reston, Va.) senior Alan Webb is
introduced to the crowd.
2. World Record holder and World Champion Hicham El
Guerrouj is introduced (sporting the new Nike uniform).
3. Olympic 1,500 meter bronze medallist Bernard Lagat
stumbles but recovers quickly at the start.
4. Alan Webb and Martin Keino take off.
5. One of the rabbits, Mike Miller, heads to the front.
6. Rabbits Sean Gross and Miller lead the way, El Guerrouj
follows. El Guerrouj's coach later said that the pace that
was set was too fast, with an unofficial split of 53 seconds.
7. #30 Daniel Zegeye of Ethiopia and Adil Kaouch of
Morocco.
8. Webb, right where he wanted to be at 400m, in the back.
His unofficial split was 58 seconds.
9. At the 1/2 mile, L-R: Youssef Baba, El Guerrouj,
Lagat and Raymond Yator.
10. It's not often that El Guerrouj comes to the U.S.
to race, but he said afterwards that he'd like to return next
year.
11. Zegeye leads Bryan Berryhill and Graham Hood.
12. Webb, still hanging out at the back, passes through
800m in 1:57, unofficially.
13. Jason Pyrah was out of contention early on and
DNF'ed.
14. Yator leads Kevin Sullivan (who will coach Webb
at Michigan next fall) and Berryhill through the 3/4 mile
mark.
15. This race was just a warm-up for Colorado State's
Berryhill; he'll be back at Hayward Field later this week,
aiming to win the NCAA 1,500m title.

17. & 18. Webb, at 2:58 (unofficially) and one
