1. & 2. The lead pack includes American 5,000m record holder Bob Kennedy who showed signs of tremendous fitness this winter when he finished 12th at the World XC Championships, but then dropped out of his first track race of the season, a 10,000m American Record attempt at Stanford in early May.
3. That 10,000m race was the one in which Keflezighi broke the American Record.
4. The two Saids: Berrioui (6th, 13:26.56) and El Wardi (9th, 13:32.95).
5-7: Bob Kennedy moves up and leads with one lap to go.
8. Carroll, shooting for the World Championship 'A' standard of 13:25, came close, running 13:32.28 for 8th.
9. Kennedy got dusted on the last lap (and lost more ground by giving up in the last 100m) by Kipkosgei (13:13.27), Mucheru (13:14.94) and Chebii (13:17.62) but it was great to see him going for it again.
10. As the winner of the men's 5,000m, Kipkosgei earned the Steve Prefontaine trophy.
