Dan
Hocking runs in the pack just past 1,000 meters.
|
1,400
meters in, Dan Browne leads the race. He needed to
finish in the top two and run under 7:54.57
to make the World Championship team.
|
Asmerom
and Riley already had the World qualifying standard
but Browne didn't because his only 3,000m race of
the season was on the slow Millrose track.
|
Jon
Riley, Dan Wilson and Eric Savoth run 3-4-5 at 1,800
meters.
|
At
2,000 meters, it's Browne, Asmerom, Riley and Wilson.
|
|
Mike
DiGennaro wound up eighth in 8:29.60.
|
At
2,200 meters, Browne leads Asmerom, Riley, Wilson
and Savoth.
|
At
2,400 meters, Asmerom has taken over the lead again.
|
With
two laps to go, Jon Riley took the lead for the first
time. Here, with one lap to go, it's a two-man race
between Riley and Asmerom.
|
Savoth,
a 2000 Georgetown Graduate, was a surprise here, finishing
fourth in 7:55.92, just behind Dan Wilson's 7:55.08.
|
|
|
Riley
held on to his lead and won before an enthusiastic
home crowd in 7:49.79.
|
Asmerom,
a Farm Team teammate of Riley's finished second in
7:51.85 and will also represent the U.S. at the World
Championships.
|
Dan
Browne's need for a fast time meant that he led a
lot of the race and didn't necessarily use his best
race tactics. He wound up fifth in 8:01.62.
