Kirkpatrick of the Army's World Class Athlete Program finished ninth in 28:23.29.
Matt Gonzales of the University of New Mexico continued a breakthrough season by finishing 11th (28:48.21) here.
Carney graduated from Millersville University in 2000 and then used a final year of eligibility at Penn State.
Dan Browne does his best to hang on to the lead pack.
Collegians Ed Torres (8th, 28:21.46), Ian Dobson (6th, 28:20.51) and Adam Tenforde (10th, 28:23.67) ran well.
Alan Culpepper, known for his strong kick, takes over the lead on the final laps.
Abdi Abdirahman runs in third, chased by Browne and Johnson.
Shawn Found finished 16th in 29:48.81.
