Alan Webb (right) leads on the first lap of the second 1,500m prelim.
There were 13 runners in the second prelim. They each needed to finish in the top eight and run faster than 3:49.41 to advance.
Webb continues to lead on lap two.

The early pace was quicker than the first prelim., but then the pace slowed dramatically.

Hughes, Wilson and Robison run near the back of the pack.
Robison had won the NCAA 1,500m title less than a week earlier.
Jason Lunn (in red, 3:47.04), O'Brien (3:47.13), Robison (3:47.13) and Wilson advanced automatically...
...While Brandon Strong (3:47.46), Lassiter (3:47.57), Sean Jefferson (3:47.60) and Webb (3:48.25) advanced on time.

Drake's Brent Wilberts just missed advancing (9th, 3:49.59).
Jeffrey Wood finished 13th in 3:54.80.
Raymond Weeden finished 10th in 3:50.38.
2002 NCAA 1,500m champion Don Sage (11th, 3:51.33) redshirted the outdoor season with an injury and was not yet back in top form.
Abdi Abdirahman and Matt Lane lead early on in the 5,000m final.
This was one of the most highly-anticipated races of the meet. Most of the top runners were entered...
...and Bob Kennedy and Adam Goucher were both back after struggling with injuries.
