Alan
Culpepper, doubling back from the previous night's 10,000
impressed with his strong kick for 2nd (13:29.66).
|
High
schooler Dathan Ritzenhein ran impressively. His 11th-place
13:44.70 was just .7 off of Gerry Lindgren's 1964 high school
record.
|
All
season Kennedy has been saying how well his workouts have
been going despite some minor problems in races -- here he
ran well when it counted, taking the title in 13:28.72.

record.

Though
Ritzenhein was initially disappointed, he rebounded quickly
and was upbeat when talking to reporters after the race. "I'm
not upset, I can't be upset about a race like that,"
he would say.
|
Kennedy
was obviously thrilled with his win after a car accident prevented
him from being a factor a year ago.
