Gabe Jennings leads Seneca Lassiter, Ibrahim Aden and the rest of the field.
R-L: Mike Miller, Christian Hesch, Brandon Strong, Christopher Greer and Zach Griffin.
With one lap to go, Jennings continues to lead, followed by Lassiter, Aden, Weber State's Joel Atwater and the rest of the field.
Down the home stretch (R-L) it's Miller, Lassiter, Aden, Kentucky's Hunter Spencer and Greer.
Miller (3:42.81), Aden (3:43.36), Lassiter (3:43.44) and Greer (3:43.56) took the automatic qualifying spots. Spencer (3:43.69) and Strong (3:44.03) advanced on time.
A surprising non-qualifier was Gabe Jennings, who faded down the home stretch. He missed advancing by .03, the same margin that kept him out of the NCAA final three weeks earlier.
Semi-final one of two in the senior men's steeplechase. Daniel Lincoln of Arkansas and Luke Watson of Notre Dame jump out to a lead on the first lap.
Tim Broe takes it easy, hanging out in the back of the pack.
Robert Gary and Lincoln lead over the first water barrier.
Gary and Lincoln had both looked strong in the steeple earlier in the season, with Gary winning the Cardinal Invitational in 8:23 and Lincoln winning the NCAA title in 8:22.
Broe remains in the back of the race, just ahead of Eastern Michigan's Jordan Desilets.
Colorado's Steve Slattery and Lincoln lead.
Broe leads the Nike Farm Team's David Cullum and Desilets.
Kevin Barra of Texas.
Carl Blackhurst.
Notre Dame's Luke Watson.
Advancing out of heat one were Slattery, Lincoln, Broe, Gary, Cullum, Desilets and Jesse Thomas.
The start of semi-final two (L-R): Tony Cosey, Adam Batliner, Mark Croghan, Jason Gibbons and Ray Hughes.
Mark Croghan leads early on.
Tom Chorny, the defending champion, was the most surprising casualty of the first round, he ran 8:39.17 and missed advancing by just over one second.
