The
start of the senior men's 4k race.
|
The
top six finishers would receive spots on the World
XC Championship team...
|
...which
would compete in Lausanne, Switzerland at the end
of March.
|
The
course was a muddy, slippery mess, making it particularly
difficult to get up and down some of the steeper hills.
|
The
course was one 2k figure eight and the number of laps
the runners ran depended on the distance of their
race. The 4k was just two loops.

|
Robert
Gary and Sandu Rebenciuc led down the first slippery
hill.
|
They
were followed by Dan Wilson, Ian Connor, Karl Savage
and Kevin Castille.
|
The
runners were looking for the route with the best footing
here rather than taking the shortest path.
|
The
race was still tightly bunched as the runners completed
the first part of loop one.
