The lead pack goes through approximately 2k.
Khalid Khannouchi runs his first major championship as a U.S. citizen. Unfortuantely, Khannouchi dropped out of the race just past 25k. Ronnie Holassie of Trinidad led early on but dropped out of the race just past the halfway mark. David Morris.

Samson Kandie of Kenya. Tesfaye Jifar of Ethiopia and Simon Biwott of Kenya. The crowd gets ready for an exciting finish in the men's marathon -- the highlight of the opening ceremonies.
After 26 miles, the race comes down to a 200m sprint. With 200m to go, Gezahegne Abera and Simon Biwott run neck and neck. Abera gets a slight lead and holds it to the tape, winning by one second in 2:12.42. Stefano Baldini took 3rd in 2:13:18.
Tesfaye Tola finished 4th in 2:13:58, helping Ethiopia to the team title. Shigeru Aburaya of Japan takes 5th in 2:14:07. After looking like he might run away with the race at 30k, Abdelkader El Mouaziz finished 6th in 2:15:41. Benoit Zwierzchlewski looks pleased with his 13th-place finish (2:18:29).
Josh Cox is the first American in 35th (2:26:52). Eddy Hellebuyck finished close behind in 38th (2:28:01). The first Canadian, Steve Bohan, received an extremely warm welcome from the home crowd (42nd, 2:29:22). Mike Dudley finishes 48th in 2:30:45.
