Tim Broe of the U.S. starts out in the back. L-R: Three Kenyans, Raymond Yator, world record holder Bernard Barmasai and Reuben Kosgei lead. Hot on the Kenyans' heels are #306 Luis Miguel Martin, #763 Ali Ezzine and Boulami.
Barmasai, Kosgei and Yator. Bouabdallah Tahri of France (5th, 8:19.56) and Raif Assmus of Germany (9th, 8:21.73). Boulami and Kosgei lead, followed by Martin and Yator (obscured), and Ezzine and Barmasai. Heading into the last water jump, it's Kosgei, Barmasai, Ezzine and Yator.
Kosgei (1st 8:15.16), Barmasai (3rd, 8:16.59) and #688 Yator (having just fallen into the water pit but getting up quickly) sprint for home. Yator faded to 8th while Ezzine came up for 2nd (8:16.21). With just over 100m to go, Broe (11th, 8:23.07) and Assmus (9th, 8:21.73) have a minor shoving match. Canada's Joel Bourgeois (14th, 8:36.38). France's Gael Pencreach (15th, 8:41.51).
