L-R in the men's 400m Hurdles final it's Jiri Muzik, Pawel Januszewski, Christopher Rawlinson, Felix Sanchez, Fabrizio Mori, Dai Tamesue, Boris Gorban and Hadi Soua'an Al-Somaily (who holds a slight lead here, heading into the home stretch).
Sanchez (left) edges out Mori (center) for the gold, 47.49 to 47.54 while Japan's Dai Tamesue (right) finishes 3rd. Sanchez reacts to his victory... ...And congratulates runner-up Mori.
The first semifinal in the men's 1,500m. L-R: Anthony Whiteman, Youssef Baba, Bernard Lagat and Hudson Santos De Souza. R-L: Gert-Jan Liefers, Peter Philipp, Baba, Canada's Graham Hood and Mohamed Khalidi. Despite not qualifying for the final here (11th, 3:40.52), Hood, a former star for the University of Arkansas, has had a good season, re-emerging as an international contender in the 1,500m. De Souza (who did not advance) leads, followed by Reyes Estevez, Lagat and #920 Rui Silva. Lagat won the heat in 3:35.82.
Semifinal #2 featured Kevin Sullivan and his many enthusiastic fans.
L-R: Sullivan, Laban Rotich, Craig Mottram, Abdelkader Hachlaf, Jose Antonio Redolat, John Mayock and Driss Maazouzi. The two North Americans in the semis, Paul McMullen (of the U.S.) and Kevin Sullivan train together in Michigan. At about 800 meters (which they passed through in about 2:08), it's (L-R) Sullivan, Mottram, McMullen, El Guerrouj and Maazouzi leading.

With 300 to go, the six qualifiers for the final (R-L) El Guerrouj, Redolat, Maazouzi, McMullen, Hachlaf and Chirchir have already begun to separate themselves from the rest of the field.
